Ascension Health was formed in 1999, when the four provinces of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul that have been sponsors of the Daughters of Charity National Health Method (now combined into one – the Province of St. Louise), and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Nazareth (now part of the Congregation of St. Joseph), brought their health systems together. Ascension Michigan consists of Borgess Health in Kalamazoo, Genesys Health Program in Grand Blanc, St. John Providence in Metro Detroit, St. Joseph Health System in Tawas, and St. Mary’s of Michigan in Saginaw and Standish. Not too long ago, Ministry Health Care assumed sole sponsorship of northeast Wisconsin’s Affinity Health Program. The Michigan Ministries of Ascension employ more than 25,000 associates with $1.4 billion in payroll each year, the release states.
